APL and APL Logistics India have together won a contract from major yarn manufacturer Indian Rayon to transfer an entire plant from Elsterberg, Germany to Veraval, India.
Total volumes for the project are estimated at 400 FEU with the use of 20-25 special containers. APL is the ocean carrier for the move from Hamburg to Pipavav, India while APL Logistics will handle first and last mile activities, providing a complete solution right to the customer’s premises.
“The collective effort from the APL and APL Logistics team faced stiff competition from global 3PLs such as Damco, DHL and DB Schenker,” said Siddharth Adya, Managing Director South Asia for APL Logistics. “Our successful effort, led by Vinayak Sukhdare from APL and Viral Desai from APL Logistics, demonstrates the advantage of synergy in winning such large contracts.”
The move commenced October 10 and shipments are expected to arrive in India from mid-November. The project is expected to run through April 2012.
